Sutherland Cup
A couple of weeks after winning the Sutherland Cup, the ×îÐÂÂ鶹ÊÓƵ Maroons are going to celebrate with their home fans.
The Maroons won the Sutherland Cup in St. Catharines on May 11.
A victory celebration and parade are scheduled to take place on June 8. A parade will begin at 2 p.m. At the corner of Queen and Elm Streets (just south of Sarah’s Farm Market). The parade will make its way down Queen Street, turn right onto Tweedsmuir, and then proceed to ×îÐÂÂ鶹ÊÓƵ Memorial Arena for a rally.
The rally will include the Sutherland Cup and the Western Conference Joe Thornton Trophy. It will also include live interviews with the team and coaches, a greeting from CK Town Crier George Sims, speeches from dignitaries, and championship merchandise for sale.
First awarded in 1934, the Sutherland Cup is emblematic of Junior ‘B’ supremacy in the Ontario Hockey Association.
The 23 teams in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League now compete for this trophy. The Maroons last won this trophy in 1999.
